Music Therapy on the Burns, Trauma & High Acuity Unit, VGH

Music Therapy on the BTHAU occurs at the patient’s bedside where goals such as increased relaxation, pain management and decreased anxiety are facilitated through a variety of interventions including patient song choices, music making, song writing, improvisation, and guided relaxation.

The music therapist works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team using music during painful dressing changes or physical rehabilitation by tapping into the intrinsic motivation that music has to inspire and encourage patients throughout their recovery.

On the BTHAU we understand that a big part of patient recovery relies on the patient’s spirit and will to survive. Music therapy services have become an integral and vital part of the innovative and excellent care provided to patients on the BTHAU at VGH.

To support Music Therapy at the Burns, Trauma & High Acuity Unit at VGH, please consider donating to the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund and note “Music Therapy” in the box “This donation is in memory of:” or contact  The VGH Foundation  or Music Heals regarding your gift for the VGH Burn Unit Music Therapy Program.Music Therapy at the BC Professional Firefighter's Association Burns, Trauma & High Acuity Unit (BTHAU), Vancouver General Hospital
